# Crystor > Crystor is an open-source encrypted vault for the AI-agent era. Files stay encrypted and indexed entirely on the user's device; any AI (ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code, or local agents) gets scoped, audited, revocable access through one local MCP server instead of filesystem access. Optional sync rides the user's own cloud (Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, iCloud) as sealed data the provider cannot read. The vault, on-device search, the local keyhole, and multi-device sync are all free; the core is open source; no account required. Made by Cryptographic Storage Corporation. Crystor, from CRYptographic STORage. Every claim here is verifiable: the crypto, vault format, index, and keyhole are open source, and each AI access is written to a human-readable audit log the user controls. ## Product - [Homepage](https://crystor.com/): what Crystor is, how the vault, keyhole, and audit log work - [Source code](https://github.com/getcrystor/crystor-core): open-source core (crypto, vault format, index, MCP keyhole) ## Install - macOS: `brew install crystor` - Windows: `winget install crystor` (or `scoop install crystor`) - From source: `cargo install crystor` - Initialize a vault and connect Claude Code: `crystor init`, then `claude mcp add crystor` - Binaries are on [GitHub releases](https://github.com/getcrystor/crystor-core/releases) ## Who it's for - [OpenClaw and Hermes users](https://crystor.com/for/agent-users.html): scoped, logged vault access for local agents - [Claude Code developers](https://crystor.com/for/claude-code.html): MCP-native vault access - [ChatGPT and Claude users](https://crystor.com/for/chatgpt-claude.html): question-sized access instead of whole-source connectors - [Privacy-first individuals](https://crystor.com/for/privacy-first.html): encrypted cloud storage that stays searchable - [Lawyers](https://crystor.com/for/lawyers.html): AI on client files with a defensible audit log - [Accountants and tax professionals](https://crystor.com/for/accountants.html): AI on client records, scoped and logged - [Financial advisors](https://crystor.com/for/financial-advisors.html): controlled AI access to client data ## Use cases - [Chat with your files, privately](https://crystor.com/use-cases/chat-with-your-files.html) - [Access control for AI agents](https://crystor.com/use-cases/agent-access-control.html): zero-trust access, nothing visible by default - [Encrypted sync on your own cloud](https://crystor.com/use-cases/encrypted-cloud-sync.html) - [An audit trail for AI file access](https://crystor.com/use-cases/ai-audit-log.html) ## Comparisons - [Crystor vs Cryptomator](https://crystor.com/compare/cryptomator.html) - [Boxcryptor alternative](https://crystor.com/compare/boxcryptor.html) - [Crystor vs Proton Drive](https://crystor.com/compare/proton-drive.html) ## Legal - [Terms of service](https://crystor.com/terms.html) - [Privacy policy](https://crystor.com/privacy.html): no accounts, no cookies, no trackers, server logs only
